In the Jonas Brothers defence, and it pains me to say it, they were some of the only people who seemed to take the joke as just that - a joke.
I don't believe that 66.6666% of them haven't had sex ANYWAY. I only have a blind item to back me up on that ("Chastity? What chastity? Done it, done it, hasn't done it.") but there's nothing about their Disney affiliation that makes me think it's not just a stunt to ensure maximum parental approval. Mmm cynicism.
why not fictionally slap a sex scandal on a Conservative?
Ben and Hannah working together was fantastically awkward.
I may be misreading the situation and they'll bring Ben back in later in the season, but for now he's living out of London and, thus, not in it much. :(
Re: Billie. There are a lot of shots of her head and shoulders and then a cut to a shot of her body. No panning. So yeah, it's pretty obvious they're hiding the pregnancy, but it hasn't adversely affected the show, as far as I can see.
Frankly, I wasn't terribly surprised by that fact that Americans had difficulty with Russell. But in my opinion that had less to do with Russell not being famous there and more with Americans being... well, American. Like your point with the whole promise ring thing, where else in the world?
Is Russell really as funny if you don't don't have a tabloid context for him?I'm sure having the tabloid context can't but help, but it's certainly not necessary for understanding his style of humour

Thank you for your insights. :) I remember hearing he was the VMA host and thinking "...Oh! I know that name!" :p
The essay about Republicans is fascinating -- mainly because it explains why my sister and my mother can't have a conversation:
Sister: :20 minute argument about Obama's policies, his vision, how his lack of experience may be an asset, his views on the issues, etc.: Mother: "I don't like him. I lived through Jimmy Carter as President once. I don't want to do it again."
It's like "Republicans are from Mars, Democrats are from Venus" in a way.

I avoid tabloids as hard as it is possible to avoid a thing, and I find Russell hilarious. If that ... answers your question at all :D
