I went. I had to. I had to see it with my own eyes, had to stand there with my heart in my mouth as history was made. And I'm so glad I did. ( Click for my inauguration adventure )
I'm so glad everything worked out for you, and that you had a good time. I guess your part of an historic event now huh? I wish I had the courage to do things like that. (I'm a touch Agoraphobic) I think it would have been a good story for the grand kid :)
I hope he can make the changes he wants to make and that this truly is a new era.
It was so incredible. The waving flags looked like a swarm. It was beautiful, and breath taking. I can only imagine what the energy there was like.
I cried and cried and actually lost my breath when he began taking his oath.
You guys looked amazing! I am so glad you had wonderful neighbors to share it with, but then again, how could you not? This is "our" America!
PS there was this one older gentleman whom the cameras kept going back to. He appeared to spend the ENTIRE day at a salute, with tears dripping off his cheeks. Layers of clothing appeared and disappeared, the shadows changed, but he was there, in his salute. It was beautiful!
It really was awesome. I'm glad you didn't risk your spoons, though, especially for the getting-home part. There's no way we could have kept your right leg touch-free.
Completely apropos of nothing this post is about, a friend of mine is interested in making a small batch of home mead and I mentioned I knew somebody. Do you mind if I give him your e-mail address? (He is kjatar on my friends list, and I know him from my martial arts days immediately after high school. He's a very nice guy.)
Re: inauguration. OMG. I was crying and watching with my hand over my mouth the whole time. I made mortiseraphim drive with NPR on as we went to his parents' place to watch the inauguration and parade. It was so completely amazing and astounding.
Apparently, there's a potential problem with Obama's swearing in. It's easily rectified, fortunately. The chief justice said the wrong words. Close, but this kind of thing gets pretty exacting. So the Oath Obama took, while the same in meaning, wasn't the specific Oath of Office. I'm sure they'll get it all straightened out, but it could be a mild problem if someone really wanted to push.
