On debates and suffrage

Greatly enjoyed the debate last night. It was extremely pleasant to be throwing hair ties at the screen not because I have reached the pinnacle of frustration with one candidate's relative IQ level, but because I disagree with their policies. Huzzah for a return to debates featuring candidates with an IQ higher than an orange! I did feel bad for ( Read more... )

Exactly--the responsibility to take part in the process falls to all of us. I was specifically on women because it came up last night....

As pro-woman as I am, I'm actually pretty anti-gender-exclusion these days, especially as far as spirituality goes. Angie's initiation ritual was beautiful, but I think it would have been just as lovely had men been involved. It was Angie's preference that it be gender exclusive and since it was ~her~ ritual, I supported her, you know? Not something I would ever have chosen for myself, though.

Here are some of the CNN result polls from the debates last night:

Obama crushed McCain in a 2 to 1 ratio on almost every issue.

I know--I'm really happy. Not surprised, though--McCain didn't warm up till over halfway through...

While I was making my morning rounds I over heard some of the sales staff (uber right wing great white sharks in power suits) discussing the debates last night and they were bemoaning McCain’s performance saying that if he doesn't get his act together that America-hating-socialist-wuss Obama would surely get elected. They all sounded kind of bummed about the debates last night. Can't honestly say I'm sorry about it.

Yeah, I have limited sympathy. These are the same people who voted the current batch of idiots into office....

If you have not yet done so, please read Cokie Roberts book Founding Mothers. It is a brilliant book on the wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters of the Founding generation and serves as a marvelous corrective.
