<------ Nerd

So this is a weird thing to gripe about and I know it and I know I should be very, very pleased with myself and grateful and all. But I still feel awkward and a bit uncomfortable (and this is my blog where I can whine about whatever I want) so here goes. I got the highest score in one of my classes on both the test we took last week and the paper ( Read more... )

insecurity, grades, school stuff

Yes, exactly! I'll find myself avoiding raising my hand if I've already answered, say, two questions, despite the fact that my instructor is desperately looking for ~someone~ who's actually done the reading...

From one old teacher's pet to another... if there's anything to stand out from the crowd in, this is it! I recognize a kindred spirit in you. Thank Goddess for your brains! I'm proud to be your friend. You rock, sister.

This reminds me of something I heard recently- someone was extremely frowned upon for writing in a job application that they are "hard-working and focused", because.... and this is a TRUE STORY... an answer like that made everyone else look bad. o_0

So... I am inclined to have the opinion that you are only doing what you go there to do [Learn], and that by actually doing so, you "show everyone else up". That you listen and absorb and therefore know, is nothing to feel bad about.
I mean, I know that it doesn't matter and it will still make you feel uncomfortable, but really, it's not your fault at all that they feel inferior- if they *really* wanted to get more answers right, they'd try harder and they have some beef with you because you're doing what they can't/can't be bothered to without even appearing like you're struggling. Simple.

[I was THE nerd, not one of them, haha! I wish I had formed this sort of thinking when I was younger, would have saved a lot of stress ;)]

I think that's the main issue here--my current thought-set on intelligence is waging war with the teenage one...lol

Geeks are sexy and totally rule the world. The others are just jealous they probably wont be chosen for your court.

It's true! I, on the other hand, can fully appreciate the asthetics of a small yet sparkley tiara ;)

XOXO

There's a part of me that still inwardly cringes and looks for escape routes whenever I pass a group of giggling fourteen-to-nineteen-year-olds. I try to pacify her by telling her that I'm as much as a decade older than them, significantly more muscular, and I have not only martial arts training but a functioning brain. Sometimes that shuts her up, sometimes not.

But doing well in class is so much fun. When someone else complains about how hard it all is, and how they're struggling to hit a 2.5 GPA, you can just smile serenely to yourself and tell yourself that's just one less worry on your plate.
