Magic Mike: Actually better than I thought it was going to be, if still mostly beefcake with a surprisingly strong story. Not a single guy in my theater. That said:

Simon Halls, you are the LUCKIEST MOTHERFUCKER ON EARTH.

Update to say: Agree re: Simon. I actually found the story a lot weaker than I'd expected, but found Tatum much more tolerable than I'd expected, so probably a net win?

It really was quite fun, while still telling a good story. We had 5 guys in our theater and every time one walked in, the whole crowded gave him applause and a few hoots and hollars.

I saw it tonight with 6 friends of various ages----none of us thought it lived up to the hype. Not nearly enough beefcake, not enough dancing, and we hated the cinematography. Maybe I'm missing something, but Soderburgh made even a day at the beach visually dull as hell. Bomer was indeed gorgeous, but it would have been nice to see an occasional closeup of somebody besides Pettyfur and Tatum----I didn't see enough of anyone else's faces to be able to pick them out of a lineup. The audience was far more entertaining, rowdy and totally inappropriate, and lots of women in slutwear for some reason;) Maybe I'm just spoiled---I've seen a lot of REALLY good male reviews over the years----and I expected this to be sexier (but not necessarily more naked) than it was.
