This does seem like the only reasonable explanation of that scene... they don't know each other well enough to be able to aim those barbs that well.
Huh, I'd completely missed that detail, both in the serial and in the fic, but it really is the only thing that makes sense.
the Doctor does get Ace to a fair extent, so this seems fair.
Do you mean "get" as in understand, or as in monopolize? Both could apply, but I'm not sure which you meant is more pertinent to this fic.
