I got two self-published novels this weekend from different authors to review. After reading the first one, I actually wrote the author and told her that I could not review it because I didn't want to wreck her career with what could only be a bad review for her novel (bad grammar, misspellings, horrible formatting, etc and she was asking $10 for a digital copy of said novel!). It was my choice to turn it down, when it would have been perfectly within my rights to post the bad review and be honest.

Authors have to learn to take bad reviews. It's a fact of life.

Yeah, I read that Jacqueline Howett thread with a sort of grim fascination. I can't believe that she didn't even think to get the book decently proof read or something. But turning round and insulting people who pick up on basic grammatical and punctutation errors in a book...yeah. And her blog's just as bad, so as for her insisting that she's a good writer? Ha!
