I really, really hate tv shows that get a small group of kids, get them playing video games and then say 'look, video games make kids violent.'

Basically, there were about 40 twelve year olds boys. Half of them played a football game and the other played a war game. After twenty minutes they were shown some violent news coverage. Watching their ( Read more... )

Exactly.

If you let kids be brought up by the TV/movies/video games and make little effort to teach them morals etc then it's of little surprise that they don't know or don't care how they should act.

Computer games probably do make kids violent, as do certain TV shows, music, and films - when their parents can't be bothered to raise them by giving them guidance.

Kids get such a bum rap in society, largely because of the entitled delusions of adults who think they should get automatic respect. Maybe kids would be more inclined to respect fellow beings if they were actually treated with some sometimes.

Yes. Exactly.

It's not the TV show/film/video game that makes the kids violent, it's the fact that their parents aren't giving them any values or morals.

It pisses me off SO much that so many people say that video games make kids violent. As if that is the only factor and nothing can change that fact.

Video games aren't the only fact. They aren't even the most important factor. The most important is obviously parents interaction with their kids and teaching them right from wrong.

Oh, it makes me mad *g*

Absolutely...without the guidance and reality check from your parents and the world around you, I can see movies or video games making kids inured to violence, because it is so graphic nowadays..but there should be a difference between fantasy and reality that's acknowledged.

Yes. Totally.

I think if kids aren't taught the difference between right and wrong from the very beginning and how to distinguish between reality and fantasy no-one can be surprised when they act in a way they shouldn't. But it's all about being brought up properly.

Video games aren't the cause of kids being violent, it's more of a symptom of not being taught from an early age.
