Crash was incredibly well written and edited. Brokeback Mountain was also incredibly well written and directed. However, Crash touched on subjects more heady than Brokeback, so I'm not at all surprised by it's win. Brokeback was a better movie, sure. But the Academy always goes with the "bigger" film.

Crash was Hollywood saying, "Hey, we're touching on a subject that's real heady and attempting to make some kind of social commentary by creating a movie that is completely unrealistic to show you the ways of the real world..."

It was terribly written... but well edited.

Capote should have won.

To Leah, as a screenwriter, Crash was VERY well written.

To Jonas, Hollywood didn't turn it's back on homos. They gave several awards to Philidelphia when it was up.

I can see why (having seen both Crash and Brokeback) the Academy went how it did.

There is a definite difference between Hollywood and The Academy. The Academy is made up of Hollywood, but only some, not all. Hollywood is respondible for the movies you see, but the Academy is the body that gives the reward, see?
