The roses were always blooming at Ohtori Academy. It was probably part of the magic timelessness of the place -- even in winter, the greenhouses kept the flowers safe. Outside, Anthy has to learn to mark the cycles of bud and bloom, growth and decay. She doesn't have the space for roses in the tiny apartment that she shares with Chuchu; she keeps sweet-smelling herbs and tiny cacti.

She sees roses in the city, though, in parks and gardens. After Ohtori, she hates the sight of them. But she keeps expecting to see someone waiting for her among the blooms.
