Title: Hatful of Hollow (Part 10/13)
Disclaimer: Being a bloke who likes to slash pretty men doesn't make me RTD, I don't work for the BBC, and as much as I might like to, I don't own Jack or Ianto or any part of Torchwood. I do, however, order pizza under that name on principle.
Pairings: Jack/Ianto, implied other.
Rating: R for profanity, ( Read more... )

Looking inside Jack's head is hard work. He shows us so little of his thinking. Indeed the person who seems to catch the best insight - John Ellis - carries it with him to the grave. So I am mightily impressed that you really have offered a decent idea of his motivating factors. And how critical of himself he is. Still the Time Lord can't complain - one way or another he made Jack.

This is a sparely written piece that still manages to evoke all the moods of Out of Time. As always your attention to detail shines through, frames your story. Owen was exactly right to cap the ending. And he's right; they make a mess of things but maybe they make less of a mess of things than most others would. Oh, and yes, quite right with the Batman reference. :)

An awesome series, this!

I liked the idea of "Out of Time" framing a crisis of confidence on Jack's part. Torchwood's had a rough few months, Jack's had a rough few months, etc.

And then, out of nowhere, boom. His problem appears in the flesh.

Thanks for the vote of confidence re: detail. I sometimes wonder if the reams of geekery I generate on these are worthwhile. ;)

I'll have to remember to thank Joe again for suggesting wisdom come from Owen. (Who is, I should point out, harder for me to write than Jack is at this point. I suspect we'll see more of him toward the end, though. Can't wait to shoot him. ;)

ooo, brilliant. And loved Owen's line about four fuck-ups and Batman. Oh, and Jack not being sure how much future he's wiping out, as well as as his easy, unspoken relationship with Ianto. Ah, sod it. All of it, really.

I like the bits about Jack worrying how much of history he's changed.

I also love the Batman comment from Owen - very appropriate.

I think his Time Agent training gives him the opportunity to get a little maudlin sometimes, now that he's basically stuck in the timeline long-term. He's got to think about this once in a while. (Or at least, he probably does pre LotTL. After that, he's probably a lot more secure.)

And I'm glad Owen came across well. I don't write him much, so he's a challenge.

Oooh, wow. Great emotions, love the pictures you're painting.

The individual pain and lonliness of those five fuckups.

Am very much enjoying this series, thanks :)

I'm glad! It's winding down, of course -- I've just got "Combat" and "Captain Jack Harkness" and "End of Days" to go -- but man. I do enjoy writing it. Hence, I'm glad you like reading it!
