Title: The Ballad of Reading Gaol
Disclaimer: Being a bloke who likes to slash pretty men doesn't make me RTD, I don't work for the BBC, and as much as I might like to, I don't own Jack or Ianto or any part of Torchwood. I do, however, order pizza under that name on principle.
Pairings: Implied Jack/Other.

Really sad, and wonderfully defiant.

I think Oscar Wilde did go for the martyrs route, which most did, if they didn't go mad instead. Jack would never break or stop trying to be free; at any cost but he also knows he can't die and would welcom it if he did.

That is his strength and weakness.

It really is. That was the hard thing about writing this: Jack refuses to accept being a prisoner, but every time he fights it, prison gets worse.

I'm glad you thought it was beautiful. I was hoping that's what it'd be in the end.

Oh, now that was perfect - thank you!

I was a little wary of reading something involving a real person, but with Oscar only ever there really 'off camera' it worked perfectly for both of them. Loved the Milton. And the ending - perfectly right, and not sentimental (which I guess I was afraid of too!).

I appreciate you taking a risk! I'm glad it worked for you, and that it came out as balanced as I hoped it might.

I've been working my way through more of your work, and I really like the way you write. Um... any other fandoms, etc?

Nope, just Torchwood/Who. Maybe others someday, but I really enjoy writing this stuff.

Ohhhh. Beautiful. So beautiful. Clearly and concisely written with excellent pacing and attention to detail. I'm inspired to read up on Wilde now -- it's been ages.

I'd like to add your journal to my reading list. I hope that's all right.

Feel free! That's what it's for.

If you can find Frank Harris' biography of him, you might give it a go. It's a little light on historical detail, but Harris was a friend of Wilde's, and a contemporary. It's interesting from a gossip perspective.

Thanks! I'll see if I can get it through the university library.
