Title: The Ballad of Reading Gaol
Disclaimer: Being a bloke who likes to slash pretty men doesn't make me RTD, I don't work for the BBC, and as much as I might like to, I don't own Jack or Ianto or any part of Torchwood. I do, however, order pizza under that name on principle.
Pairings: Implied Jack/Other.
Rating: At least a PG-13/R for violence

I think Oscar Wilde did go for the martyrs route, which most did, if they didn't go mad instead. Jack would never break or stop trying to be free; at any cost but he also knows he can't die and would welcom it if he did.
That is his strength and weakness.

I'm glad you thought it was beautiful. I was hoping that's what it'd be in the end.

I was a little wary of reading something involving a real person, but with Oscar only ever there really 'off camera' it worked perfectly for both of them. Loved the Milton. And the ending - perfectly right, and not sentimental (which I guess I was afraid of too!).

I'd like to add your journal to my reading list. I hope that's all right.

If you can find Frank Harris' biography of him, you might give it a go. It's a little light on historical detail, but Harris was a friend of Wilde's, and a contemporary. It's interesting from a gossip perspective.
