Title: "Shade"
Disclaimer: Being a bloke who likes to slash pretty men doesn't make me RTD, I don't work for the BBC, and as much as I might like to, I don't own Jack or Ianto or any part of Torchwood. I do, however, order pizza under that name on principle.

Yes! Very much a Gwen response; she doesn't want to be coolly detached from what her work means.

Also very effective imagery - I can picture the scene even with so few words to describe it. Not pretty at all.

The prompt table and WiaD are both teaching me a lot about economy and building a scene in a really tiny space. Glad it worked. ;)

It shows that you can leave a considerable amount for the reader to conjure up in their own minds. You gave us just enough to imagine what was relevant to the scene so that it had the required emotional resonance with the non-descriptive text. If that makes sense?

It does. An artist friend of mine and I were discussing sketching once and he explained to me that the best stuff implies lines without necessarily needing to draw them in.

Nice to see the idea transfers well to prose.

I agree; this is very much like Gwen. There are no "its" in her job; every victim, every murderer, every alien is a "who"--and that's a worldview that's got to be horribly painful for her, even as it makes her necessary to the team--and especially to Jack. Very well done.

Thanks! I rarely write Gwen, but she was the right one for this prompt. I'm glad she came through well.

I like this, there's a very sharp clarity to the images and it makes perfect sense that it's coming from Gwen rather than one of the others.
