...speaking as someone who grew up and remains on the upper end of upper-middle-class (ironically, like the whiny dude, when my parents were still married they were a doctor-math professor pair, yes, with an income level to match), people like those mentioned in the income level thing really annoy me. You're in a position of privilege, shut up and do your duty to society.

I thought you might've been linking to a different graph, which shows people's perceptions of everyone's income vs. the reality. People perceive the bottom 20% earning somewhere around a "reasonable" 5-10% of the proverbial pie, and the top 20% getting somewhere in the 30-40% range. The actual graph shows the top 20% get over half, and the TWO bottom 20% ranges don't even register on the graph. What the graph doesn't show is that the bottom 20% gets -1%... actually OWES 1%... while the next tier up gets 1%.

Or, at least, they did two years ago. The way the economy's going, it's probably gotten worse.
