Not finished reading yet, so I can't say much, but . . . stranglekelp! I don't know if that was an intentional reference, but it made me giggle. Also reminded me that I've been neglecting my transmutes for a while now. Oops =/
Okie dokie, done now, so you'll get a quick quick quick review before I have to get ready for class. I definitely like the change in Alex so far. Seems like she's starting to grow up a little and become a better person, but she still seems to have the spunk that makes her so . . . *her*. That's a really strange word, "spunk." About the Max/Martin thing, first thing I thought when I read it was "Noooooo!" I'd always sort of hoped he and Alex would get together, in the very, VERY distant future. Of course, I always also suspected ("always" here meaning "since I finished Lands Below") that there was something between those two. One thing I'm still wondering about: Why did Darla have to kill herself even after the hole/portal/abyss thingy to the Lands Beyond closed? Did the coin not count as a sacrifice? And if it didn't, then why was it good enough to close the hole? I think that's all for now. I'll probably have a million more things to say later, but for now I guess I'll just leave it at "Squeeeeeee!"
Thank you, thank you, thank you for another fantastic installment in the AQ-series. I have spent the past weeks in utter suspense, waiting for the chapter releases, and it was absolutely worth it. So, thank you very much!
It was I! Mwahahahaha! With practically the same reasoning Alexandra used, as well!
(though honestly, it wasn't that hard. I was far more impressed when fandom got the details of the Deathly Regiment exactly right before chapter 30)
In addition, consider: Max, who was much like Alex, was in a gay relationship with his Chinese best friend. So...yeah. >_> Alex/Anna is coming in Book 4. Whether or not it will last is, of course, a different story.
In retrospect, I know enough about Chinese that I should've recognized that "Nguyen" was a different language. I am a bad cosmopolitan bleeding heart liberal. v_v
Maaaan, I totally forgot all the "vibes" I got from Martin at the end of book two. I didn't even think much of it at the time. *Dusts off gaydar.* Looks like the old girl still has some life in her!
Thank you so much. This book has been the highlight of my (half-)week from beginning to end. :3 It was excellent, made me fall in even more love with the characters, and left me wanting more; all the things a good book should do. =D
