I find the biggest flaw with this book was that it really should have split into two. The first part was good but I felt like the After seemed really rushed and I didn't care for the way it ended. I feel like he needed to make deadline and just finished it, rather than splitting it into two.

Overall, it was a really good story and I liked the beginning (I really agree about the Neil DeGrasse Tyson comparison too!) but I felt the ending seemed a little off.

But I felt like Diamond Age sort of rushed the ending too.

It's been a while since I read Diamond Age, but I do seem to recall it had a rushed ending.

A lot of people who read Seveneves seem to dislike the split nature of it. I didn't dislike it, but it really seemed like it should have been one book followed by a sequel. It almost seemed like Stephenson was trying to write a more linear version of Cloud Atlas.

I didn't dislike the split nature as much as I felt the second half really should have been put in a sequel and given more of a chance to explore Earth and what had happened to the survivors there. So basically, yes I agree with you. It took a while to get through the book, you can tell a lot of research was poured into the book.
