Ursula Le Guin is one of my favorite authors, but it has been a good fifteen years since I read "Left Hand".

Thank you for the thoughtful review, I'll probably go and revisit this (first read sometime in my teens, mid 1970s, and I can tell you the ideas were quite shocking/intriguing back then). Interestingly, I would probably rate this one as "more action packed" than The Disposessed, which I have re-read more recently. Since I grew up on the Canadian Prairies, the idea of a dangerous winter trek across the ice seemed - if not an everyday event - at least something that "could happen to you" if you were stuck on the highway in a blizzard.
