By the same token, it's hard to avoid comparisons and hard to believe King wrote IT, unaware of the book he was very nearly imitating--Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.

I don't know about that. I'm sure King read and was influenced by Bradbury, but I have read Something Wicked This Way Comes, and while there are superficial similarities, I don't think King was writing the same story at all.
