I think what tempted me most into reading book one was Dean's Corner on MNFF. Your chapter illustrations and other people's pictures of you scenes and characters. I can't remember exactly when I started reading but it seems that you were posting book 3 when I started the first one. I have to admit, I haven't read HHD, it's just never crossed my mind other than when I catch it in your posts. I may have to get to it at some point.

when i read hp fanfiction more (and thus when i discovered AQ) it was almost exclusively on Mugglenet. its been a rather long time since i had the patience to deal with all the crap that is on FF in order to find even a half-decent story...

and i guess i am in the minority then, because I've always been FAR more interested in AQ than in HHD :0

Wait, HHD gets more reviews? I admit I haven't checked all posting, but this seems odd - any two books on fanfiction.net have more reviews than it does. Personally, I think the Alexandra Quick series is far better.

I remember posting in the "Help! I'm looking for..." thread at the FictionAlley forums when I was looking for fics set in other schools- somebody recced AQ to me. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for!

I was one of the people who discovered Alexandra Quick after reading HHD -- strangely enough, I can't remember what compelled me to check out HHD, as I for the most part don't like "next generation" fics. (Possibly the fact that it wasn't an Albus/Rose/Scorpius fic helped, because man, did I get tired of those almost immediately...)

I know Alexandra as a character gets a bit of flak from readers, but I think the important thing with her is that she's repeatedly called out on her behavior by the narrative -- I never get the feeling (like I do with a lot of characters in other stories) that her less-than-admirable traits are excused. Explained, yes, but not in such a way that I feel I'm being ordered to pity or admire her in spite or because of those traits. Even if she's not always punished in-story, I think it shines through clearly that you as an author are quite aware of it when she's being horrible. That alone makes her an enjoyable character for me to read about; I like flawed protagonists. At least when they are supposed to be
