I couldn't agree with you more about the "under god" in the Pledge of Allegiance. I find it very insulting and I didn't recite the pledge by the time I got to high school either. I would stand, if the first period teacher made us (I had some first period classes were the teacher just ignored the pledge and we did our own things), but I wouldn't place my hand over my heard to recite the words.

I really wish we were a more religiously tolerant nation. It's very frustrating to me to hear all the horrible things people say about other people.

In my opinion, being "patriotic" is recognizing when your country has done wrong and working to correct those mistakes. Being blindly patriotic and supporting everything that's done no matter what is what gets us in trouble, but people seem to confuse these two things.

I held my hand over my heart, as I love my country with my whole heart. I hold it dear. I cherish and value it. However, there are a LOT of things that I don't agree with that we have done, and I'm willing to admit when we've done so. Personally? I'd like to see Bush held accountable as a terrorist....but that's just me.

If they're still saying the 'under God' in the classroom with my son, I'm going to give him the freedom to make his own choices. He is a Christian, so I pretty much know what he'll do...but the fact is, those freedoms/choices is what makes this country so great.

I feel exactly the same way you do.
I didn't and don't appreciate being forced into acknowledging "God" in all that stuff. Leave it out, tyvm :)
