Title:How It Could Have Been; ch 10, Small Pup Author:petalears Universe:Alternate Rating:PG Summary:Inuyasha finds his feet. Quote:Nothing gives a fearful man more courage than another's fear.- Umberto Eco
The story is a good one but I don't care for how Izayoi is so easily dismissed from the family. True, Inu no Taisho is taking care of her and technically she is not family, but she does live in the house, she birthed his son and she is not a servant. It's as if by birthing Inuyasha and moving into the home, she has resigned herself to a life of... nothing. She gets no "attention" from Inu no Taisho and it seems no one pays her any mind at all. It's like she's furniture. How sad.
No, she is certainly not a servant but she is not family and in a way Inu no Taishou was tricked into the relationship. It makes her still a noble woman but more in the line of permanent guest. The next chapter deals with this problem of 'attention'. She is also no concubine in this story. Do not forget that time is different for the youkai, and the passing of it would not be so slow, they have not yet considered that she might be lonely. Please wait for the next chapter.
Realistically, I've never understood how people are "tricked" into sleeping with someone even though they were drugged/drunk. Too often that is used as an excuse for doing something they know they shouldn't have and having others accept it.
I wasn't trying to imply she would be a concubine. I was simply saying no one pays her emotional or physical well being any mind. Everyone is going about their usual business and have accepted Inuyasha, la la la, but Izayoi disregarded.
I'll take your word for it and wait for the next chapter. :-)
It would probably be the normal lot in life for a woman of those times, and people can be tricked into losing their inhibitions or even sensible thoughts while drunk or drugged. In fact Izayoi is probably being treated quite well especially by the Lady of the house. It is only in the immediate family time she is not included, not all of the time.
