Roy, Roy, you're breaking my heart.

He's definitely taking things pretty hard. I want to give him a hug in between the parts where I'm being kind of awful to him.

Seconding too_beauty - heartbreaking description but beautifully written. The disaster with the can of soup, warming up a can of soup is such a trivial thing, something so unconsciously done, that you never realize just how much you use your eyes, until, as Roy has shown us, you can't. Frankly, I'm feeling a bit boggled here. I don't know how the blind do it and, bad as they are, I'm ever so grateful my eyes work. It's amazing how important all the little visual cues of every day life are. It's hard to guess who's at more of a loose end here - Roy or Ed. Both are a such mess. :( I'm surprised the hospital let Roy go home without some sort of caretaker or guidance councelor to help him get his house in order. I would hate to think Roy refused the help. One would think he'd already learned his lesson about Pride...

Thank you very much. And yeah, you know it's not that I didn't get in theory how hard it must be to function without visual cues, but I didn't really give it much thought in a practical sense until now. In terms of Roy turning down help, I mean he even sent Hawkeye away, it's not really a matter of pride in this instance. He's not thinking so much with his ego as he is with his hurt, and it's not something he really wants to subject anyone to unnecessarily.

He's not thinking so much with his ego as he is with his hurt, and it's not something he really wants to subject anyone to unnecessarily.

But unfortunately he's going to have to. His actions are understandable given he once fancied himself as the most powerful man in all of Amestris (i.e. the Fuhrer) and now that dream, everything he worked so hard for, is gone. :(

That last line of my original comment was my vague (and failed) attempt at a double entendre hence Pride being capitalized. Pride was the one who held Roy down in the circle and used him as a sacrifice. Pride's transmutation, guided by Dr Goldtooth's knowledge, is what cost Roy his eyesight to being with. Oh well. That's what you get for being vague! :)

What really struck me, is Roy feeling like he can't use his charms any more. That he is so bothered by not being able to read visual cues and thus manipulate people, he's just going to be a cranky asswhole instead.

Yeah there is that. In actuality it is maybe not so much that he prides himself on an ability to manipulate people or anything so base as that. It's that he can't really do ANY of the things he took for granted before, and the easiest thing for him in the moment is to pinpoint something shallow and simple to be angry at. Not that that's an excuse to be an ass about it either XD

Oh Roy.., it's not easy going from the one in charge to needing help. Pride is a hard thing to face down. But it doesn't look like anyone else around him is handling it any better, either. Nobody knows quite what to do.

No, I suppose not. I mean, the timing is terrible. Central is in shambles and his team really has a responsibility to take care of the bigger problem, and Ed... is a mess all his own.
