i dunno about the uk or anywhere but there are volunteer programs in germany that you can do for a 'volunteer social year' (for girls who do not enter the army and as a way to gain experience) internationally, for example japan. outside of this social year there are other programs as well, so i think you should look around. i'm also thinking about doing that because i don't find/don't want to find a job after i finished my studies and finding a job in japan with my non-existant social skills is quite difficult. but doing volunteer work with a bed to sleep and some food would be pretty amazing and maybe boost my confidence to find work on my own.

But anyway there were loads of other volunteer options that she was talking about, too, and they all sounded really cool. It wasn't too expensive either if I remember correctly. I'll find out the name of the organisation she was doing it through for you, if you're interested in that kinda volunteer stuff :)
