the top ten musical long-playing recordings of 2005

Jan 14, 2006 03:53

2005, if i had to sum it up, was all about great bands making the most mediocre records. practically everyone i once considered "my favorite artist of all time" (including Stephen Malkmus representing Pavement) came out with an album, and all of them except one were disappointments. and i'm not talking about just the bands i like, too. i'm talking ( Read more... )

Sabi ko na nga ba may Bloc Party and Surfjan eh.
The two Feist tracks you mentioned are my absolute favorites. :)
That Spoon song is great.

I thought you didn't like Death Cab. ;)

you have all the right in the world to post first, Grant :) i always trust your taste in music, and even the memory of your emo post still cracks me up to this day.

i've heard Kaiser Chiefs and like them, but haven't bothered to get the album. i will now. thanks! and First Impressions of Earth wasn't a good album? aww meahn! i was so looking forward to that. it hasn't come out yet over here.

ok, i was being unfair to 'Make Believe'. the album has a lot of nice melodies, it's just that it seems like they're not even trying anymore, you know what i mean? 'we are all on drugs' 'ohh, i'm in love with you, you're my best friennnd'. Rivers used to write the best lyrics ever!

thanks man. will download Jack's Mannequin and Athlete asap. have a good year!

Also, I have to mention eels "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations." I completely forgot about that somehow.

Anyway, yeah, I've never been a huge Strokes fan, so there's still a chance that you will enjoy it, but I know the overall impression has been "eh."

And yeah, I agree with Weezer. There's irony, and there's lazy. But, like I said (kind of), a bad Weezer album is still better than most of the stuff out there.

wow! eels are back? it's so sad that all these 90s heroes like Nada Surf and eels are churning out good stuff but no one seems to care anymore.

gotta agree with you on the bad Weezer albums still being good shit, bruddah :)

oh, Warmer Corners? i haven't listened to it at all. but if The Lucksmiths' cover of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" came out this year then that's definitely one of the best singles of 2005 :)
