frequently asked questions

How does this work?
1. Pick an idol. Any idol. (Or Korean entertainer/model/actor. As long as it's one person!)
2. Pick up to four other groups/acts that you feel comfortable writing for; the group your idol of choice comes from cannot be any of them. (You don't have to pick four; that's just the maximum number!)

That is all you need to do. The mods will randomly select a person from one of those other groups to meet your first person in a club. You will then write a story of at least 500 words about it.

Still don't get it?
An example: say the first idol you pick is MBLAQ's Joon, and you're comfortable with writing for 2NE1, Infinite, Big Bang, and Beast.

The mods look at your sign-up, stick names in a hat, and pick Dara as your other idol. So your prompt is: "MBLAQ's Joon walks into a club and meets 2NE1's Dara," and you need to write 500 words about it. Simple.

But wait! Where is the club? What if the idols have never met each other? What if one of them is underage and would never be let into a club?
That's fine! Feel free to mix it up however you want. How you choose to get the characters into the same location and how you choose to proceed from there-all of it is totally up to you. AU, fusion, age progression, age regression, whatever. As long as the characters act like themselves, you can change anything else that you want.

Do the characters have to have sex? Does it have to be set in canon?
No! You can write gen, het, slash, femslash, porn, fist fights, love at first sight, old drama, side pairings, side cars, aliens in space, et cetera et cetera ad nauseum.

Does it have to be a club?
Not necessarily. Any sort of (semi-)public area where people congregate for leisure activities is pretty much fine. Inns, taverns, onsen, rejuvenation centers, parks, rec rooms, frat parties, what have you. Since this is a kpop idol crossover challenge, we'll allow backstage at music shows/in waiting rooms as well. (Hint: after parties are real nice and easy.)

Can I pick a idol someone else has already picked?
Of course! There are a finite number of idols and I'm sure more than one participant is going to want to write for the same idol. Rest assured, however, that we will try our hardest to make sure that you won't get the same second character as they do.

What fandoms can I sign up for?
For the purposes of this challenge, we'll be limiting it to acts that promote in Korea. Chinese groups that have promoted in Korea and/or are affiliated with Korean acts (i.e. M4M, EXO-M) are fair game as well. You are also totally welcome to select soloists, actors, models and the like in your sign-up.

A NOTE ABOUT GROUPS WITH MULTIPLE SUBUNITS: As a general rule, you are allowed to sign up with subunits, i.e. Super Junior-M and Infinite H. HOWEVER, if, for example, your first idol is from one half of EXO (i.e. I sign up with EXO-K's Baekhyun), you cannot choose a subunit of the same group as one of your other fandoms (i.e. I would not be able to use EXO-M as a group). This is to prevent people from defeating the purpose of the challenge. HOWEVER, if your first idol is from an unrelated group (i.e. I sign up with Big Bang's G-Dragon), you are free to specify between subunits of a different group (i.e. EXO-K and EXO-M) in the "other groups" portion of your sign-up.

A NOTE ABOUT GROUPS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED LINE-UP CHANGES: You may specify any permutation of a band that you want in your sign-up, as long as that permutation has existed in the realm of reality. For instance, signing up with EXO-M as a 6-member or 4-member unit is fine, but signing up with EXO-K and excluding arbitrary members is not.

Can other idols/people be involved in my story?
Certainly! Just make sure the interaction between the two characters you're assigned is the focal point of the story.

What if I don't like/can't write the person I get assigned?
Well, you signed up for it.

If we have made a legitimate error, such as assigning you someone from an act you didn't mention in your sign-up, please contact us immediately and we will fix it.

What happens if I can't finish in time?
If you know you can’t finish, contact one of the mods, either by PM or in the comments to this post. If you don’t finish and don’t contact a mod, you will not be allowed to sign up for the next challenge; you can sign up for the one after that.

I finished my story! Now what?
Post your entry to the community. Go directly to this post and follow the instructions there.

How many times can I sign up?
As many times as you want! Just make sure that you're able to follow through with however many sign-ups you do fill out.

Do I have to write in English?
No! You can write in whatever language you like, as long as you give your headers in English and whatever language you write in.

Where do I sign up?
Right here! (Sign-ups are currently closed.) Please let all your friends know this is happening, we'd love this challenge to be a success!

I have another question that hasn't been addressed in this post!
Please use the comments of this post to ask! You can also PM a mod (either myself or staygame) for help. Please join and watch the community for updates.
