I actually learn best by watching other people make mistakes. Because I'm the youngest of four, I've gotten to watch three screwups before me-- that's how I learned what to do and what not to do.

Leaving out the dangerous "electric fence" scenarios.

I learn by reading, observation and then testing things to see if theory matches observation. I refine my learning based on the test results, work out new possiblilities and think up new ways to test them and....so on. (If I think the fence may be electric, I stick to observation - or get someone else to run the test. ;) )
