A "take no prisoner's" approach to life.

Ditto on the above, + a strong ethics and the will to live in accord with them, i.e. to treat others decently and a striving towards being a person of good character.

That's not that it's the only quality I look for in a person, but what good is everything else if there's nothing between the ears?

Intelligence, reasonableness, can see humour in anything, calm, focused, etc.
