Repeating ones self

I have a particular disdain for social functions such as church gatherings these days, mostly because I know I'm going to have to repeat the same story and answer the same questions 12+ times in the same night. I almost wish it was possible to wear a sandwich board that reads stuff like "Applied to Suffolk University, got in, doing fine in school, ( Read more... )

social, social behaviour, are you like this, presentation of face, ranting

Yeah, I don't like repeating myself and hate hearing things repeated. Doesn't ruin my day, though.

It mostly garners a mental "Oh no not this again" reaction from me, though I'm willing to do it if so lassoed into a situation like that. Hence, I tend to avoid situations where I know I'll be forced into that, which is one reason I tend to make myself scarce right after church during the social hour. ;)

I have no problem telling or hearing the same story multiple times, and if people need me to repeat a piece of key information, I don't mind at all. It's just part of communication. I need things repeated to me often enough.

I think I've had all resistance worn down. I used to be a complete spaz when someone repeated something or stated the obvious (I'm talking sixth grade here), but now I don't even bat an eyelid.

It's probably a learned skill. Luckily I'm very good at keeping a straight face so I don't launch into tirades anymore. Thank God for internal monologue. ;)

there is something that Warhol is supposed to have said but i don't know what it's in reference to. it's
"i make it up all different each time i am asked." remember, you could be having some fun.

I've thought of stuff like that, and one joke we heard in Ireland was that the Irish tend to do that. I think I may have been passed over for the gift of gab, though.

I've thought of journeying the whole way over there just to kiss the blarney stone... sometimes I feel like if it actually worked, it would solve all my problems.

(yeah, right. just like winning the lottery would, right?)

Apparently the Blarney stone is something of a pile of Blarney itself, from what I heard from the Irish locals. Plus the line's huge, apparently. ;)

I dislike repeating the same game of catch-up, which is why unless you follow me on LJ, I have the patience to repeat myself to fewer than 5 other people, and all of them are really close- not acquaintances.

I hate it when someone I don't speak to save for like, once a year if that pops up on IM and after a minute says "sooo...what's up? What have you been doing?" I immediately want to close the window and block them. I don't have the patience to try to "catch people up" on my life. Either you're in it, or you aren't.

I once responded to that sort of IM question with a link to my LJ. I also tend to answer questions like that with "Not much" in real life conversations 90% of the time.

I find that the people who tend to ask the most are people I don't *want* reading my lj. Like my parents.
