Superstitions

Apr 27, 2007 22:55

While reading up on some tv transcripts today, I ran across this quote:

"... The fact is we all have little superstitious things that we do... If it's not believing in magic statues, it's avoiding sidewalk cracks, or always putting out left shoe on first... Knock on wood... Step on a crack, break your mother's back... The last thing we want to do ( Read more... )

Some of my own quirks:
- throwing spilled salt over my left shoulder (I dunno where I picked up that one from)
- although I only dabbled a little bit in numerology a long time ago, I'd picked up some number superstitions
- avoiding downtown during full moons (not because of a superstition about the moon, but rather due to my opinion that that's when most of the crazies come out)

Hmmm, a little off topic maybe, but I wear rubberbands on my left wrist 24/7. I like to put meaning to them.

uhhh, yeah :)

I'd classify that as on topic. So how long have you been doing that?

Not sure, sometimes I go months straight without being without them on.
Just for fun I like to say that they are my "protection".

Definitely touch on wood. Invoking the wood fairies always works for me.

Step on a crack, break your mother's back, step on a line you will break your mother's spine. I don't do that anymore, but man did I ever when I was kid. Otherwise I don't really have any.

Ah dont worry. I'm sure that, given enough time, you'll find that you probably still have some. (Heck, most people dont even notice that they even have any, so I thank the gods for being an INTJ).

when i was younger i used to wish a lot (with eyelashes, birthday candles, chicken bones etc.) but felt oddly guilty about it all of a sudden and stopped. now my only real superstition now is not voicing any very optimistic predictions of the future in case I 'jinx' myself.

Yeah. I think that would be my only "real" superstition, too. I don't like to get my hopes up.
