4th Formulation [Audio//Common]

[A string of emotionally draining days has left Lucrecia holed up in her room, pestering the heck out of Turks that aren't her ex or his commander for food and supplies--hey, they need to earn their keep. She's been tabulating equations, memory jogged by a few key texts, and has now reached the point she is deeply involved in visualizing... some ( Read more... )

[She's not that pleased with this assessment.]

Pardon me?

... It makes sense to me.

[Sort of.]

I mean, it's... not even a proper abstract. Obviously it's going to be a little disorganized.

...boson what?

Boson particles.

Theoretical subatomic particles hypothesized to control the conservation of energy and matter by binding the fast moving energy beams which comprise quarks and smaller into the atomic structure we're so familiar with.

[Ow. Ow. Ow.]

Oh. Right. Of course.

[There's a sigh...]

What it means is...

Well, it...

That I have a lot of work to do, that is what it means.

...what are you working on, doctor?

*Yeah, most of that goes over his head. But he recognizes it as 'important sounding sciency stuff'*

Oh, just a little distraction, recreating and expanding something from my graduate work.

One has to keep busy, right?

Ah. Good luck with it.

*He chuckles a bit*

Especially here.

[She laughs sheepishly.]

Yes, especially here...

Thank you. I--honestly, I'm not sure where I'm going with it, or why, which... which should be more unusual for someone in my position, I suppose, but engineering isn't really my focus, much to the detriment of my career.

Though apparently I improve on that in the future. Which... perhaps this current work is a part of.

This place, Marco, I swear... it does the oddest things to a person.

[It is all Lucrecia can do not to be extremely unprofessional and squee into the communicator. She replays the response, nodding as she listens, exuberance building in her features.]

Yes, yes, yes! Our planet is sentient: for a fact! Well, some of us in the scientific community still dispute the fact but the evidence is overwhelming! We even have records of her speaking to the previous race of inhabitants that humans themselves are descended from ( ... )

Fascinating! I wonder how such an advanced organism would evolve. Then again, in our world, life has quite often scaled upward in size, from single celled organisms to larger forms of life, often combining in ways we do not entirely understand. If unimpeded, it is entirely possible that such an evolution could occur. And further life on the planet would exist in symbiosis ( ... )

Indeed, indeed: we do seem closely interconnected on Gaia. And the generally theory among the spiritualists is that we "return to the planet" upon death, though, well, how would one objectively prove such a statement?

Catalytic organs... Those sound... amazing... And you can use the energy created... hunh.

It does sound analogous, yes, and yet, this substance sometimes seems to be made of light, if that makes any sense? Well some forms have phosphorescence at the least, in their natural state.

I highly doubt the subject would be compliant, no, though it wouldn't take... hm. Maybe I could acquire a few hairs.

[She laughs] I believe this is a perfect example of that principle of the truly fundamental nature of science in the realm of existence. It's a profound experience.

I'm Dr. Crescent, by the way, though most on board have taken to calling me Lucrecia.
