So, as it turned out, I ran my first ever Half Marathon today at the
San Jose Rock n Roll Half Marathon . Timing was decent for a first timer - 1:55:08. Feels good, and accomplishment of sorts .. after a long time!
Damn, I thought there was so much to write .. Anyway, don't feel like writing a lot. Some highlights to remember:
- When I started, almost everyone had left .. I started 17 mins late, quite true to my reputation :)
- So, since I started late, all through the race I ended up overtaking the slower runners till the finish line
- As I made my way past the slower runners, it felt like driving my bike on the streets in Bangalore, in fact true to how people do it, I used the sidewalk (footpath) too .. :)
- It was a lot of run to see people run. It was actually quite inspiring to see people who you don't typically associate with running, running.
- The spectators were having some fun too. They were offering food, water and such to the runners. I ended up eating a piece of bacon, only to spit it out later. Yuck.
- Water and the energy drinks were good
- I ran non-stop
- I kept a constant pace, and it was a disciplined run. Quite amazed by it. I had energy left for the last 5k.
- I sprinted for the last 1 mile, took 7.5 mins I think. It was exhilarating!
- It was fun to go around the stalls with a feeling of having done something great .. oh well.
- Away from the crowds, as I walked back to the car, I was reflecting on why I ran the race, and it was a mixed feeling!
- Boy, I like love running ...
- Swim after the run was so frigging refreshing!
- Thanks to
manjunaths for all the valuable tips and a bit of inspiration! :)
