The Big Bang Theory: 15 Best Season One Moments

Aug 01, 2009 00:19

Since I re-discovered my love for this show, I've been thinking a lot about my favorite moments, and I decided, hey, why not picspam them. I managed to narrow it down to my top fifteen.

Of course I'll be doing season two at some point (certainly before the season three premiere), but for now, here are my top 15 moments from The Big Bang Theory season one.

15. "math, science, history unraveling the mystery that all started with a big bang."

The credits are one of my absolute favorite things about the show, and have been since episode one. They're so unique and imaginative and very cool. I always get so dorky and excited and bouncy when the credits come, and I can't recall ever being so with any other show.

14. "well, today we tried masturbating for money."

This is the moment that sets up the whole show: when Sheldon and Leonard first meet Penny. Sheldon shows exactly how he reacts to new people coming into his life and Leonard pretty much falls in love with her at first sight. Sheldon's parting line, when Penny comes into their apartment, though, is rolling on the floor laughing hilarious.

13. "i don't care if anybody gets it, i'm going as the doppler effect."

I just love that Sheldon dressed as the doppler effect. It's so...Sheldon. As are his attempts to explain it to everyone. It sounds weird to say it, but Sheldon is particularly Sheldon in this episode.

12. "oxen are in my bed! many, many oxen!"

youtube
I laugh my ass of every time. I could watch that clip over and over again and never get sick of it.

11. "it serves the ancient imperative of protecting oneself against marauders."

I'm a huge fan of subtle moments like these. There's so much about this scene that I love, chief among them being that everyone totally forgot Raj was there. Including me, the first time. It's like, "Oh yeah. Raj never left." Sheldon's explanation of why people traditionally sleep facing the door (which I do, now that I think of it) because of a subconscious self-protection against marauders seemed like Sheldon being Sheldon to Penny, until Raj left and she heard a noise and immediately turned around.

10. "hey, fish night lights."

I remember watching this episode and expecting Sheldon's luminous fish to be a throw away venture, which is why I was so pleased at the end, when we saw a luminous fish on his nightstand and learned that he'd actually pulled it off.

9. "his mother published a paper on it."
"what was it called? 'I Hate My Son and That's Why He Can't Have Cake'?"

Another simple line that made me laugh like crazy.

8. "there's this thing he does where he stares at you and tries to get your brain to explode."

I love when Penny picks up and uses geeky things from the guys (there'll be at least one instance in my favorite season two moments, for sure). I believe this was the first time, but her trying to explode Howard's brain is (oddly) just adorable.

7. "i'm doing this for you, little buddy."

Oh, Howard. What won't you do to get laid? I always laugh at Howard's puffed-up face. I can't help it.

6. "some things are more important than toys."

In the first place, Leonard's fantasy is adorable. When he throws off his glasses, I can't help but giggle. And secondly, I always love it when the elevator that doesn't work is actually mentioned. If the elevator worked, they wouldn't be able to do the walk-and-talks, so I'm glad they haven't fixed it, but I always love when they do a fourth wall thing and mention it in passing.

5. "penny, you are on fire!"
"yeah, so is sheldon!"

True story: when I was about 12, every time I beat my brother at a video game, he would tell me I was cheating. I'd beat him at Mortal Combat and he'd tell me that it was cheating to push the same button over and over again. I'm not saying I got a kick out of seeing Penny be good at video games and kick Sheldon's ass for that, but still. There was a certain pleasure in seeing someone who's used to winning every time get beat by someone who's never even played the game before.

4. "what's gotten into him?"
"oh, i don't know, maybe a couple virgin cube libres that turned out to be kinda slutty."

Seeing Sheldon drunk is hilarious. Seeing Sheldon drunk and singing is even more hilarious. I love mischevous!Penny.

3. "where did my life go, penny?"

youtube
I think the reason this is so high on my list is because I literally gasped. I got so caught up in Raj never being able to talk to Penny that when he actually did, it shocked me as much as it did Penny. And I love when Penny points out that Raj is talking to her and he says "Hello Penny" for the first time.

2. "why can't all guys be like you?"
"because if all guys were like me, the human race couldn't survive."

I'm a Leonard/Penny shipper, so this one is high up on my list for that reason, and because it shows that Leonard is an honestly good guy, who, even though he's dreamed about kissing Penny, can't take advantage of her because she's really sad and really drunk. Here's the thing about me: I don't like the bad boys. Except for isolated characters, I love the nice boys. The ones that treat people right and this is when Leonard really proved he was one of those guys.

1. "we might consider schrodingers cat."

The three separate instances of the use of Schrodingers cat in the finale is my #1 favorite moment (and will re-appear in my season two favorites as well). First, Sheldon explains it to Penny, and then only has to say "schrodingers cat" to Leonard for him to get it. And then at the end, he asks Penny if she's heard of it without knowing she's already talked to Sheldon. I don't know, I just thought it was a cool thread throughout the episode, not to mention a really good metaphor for Leonard and Penny's relationship.

And there you have it. Hope you enjoyed this! ♥
