I am learning that despite all the lip service paid to 'fit', schools only care about it insofar as they want grad student labor, and nobody else gives a shit about your personal well-being, and that decision costs probably at least as much as they'll pay you for making it in forfeited potential salary later on, because all the 'real world' cares about is prestige and names, because that's all they have to go on.

Probably true, which is why I'm glad I went to the only place in DC that emphasizes Southeast Asia.
