those printers are a county-wide thing. and they were first put into use in the primary. worked well then with the low turnout, not so well in the higher turnout general. we had the same problem in my precinct - 1 printer with a paper jam we couldn't clear and 4 out of paper. Fortunately we got some spares delivered so we actually had 8 total and finished off the night with 3 still working. But at one point we were down to 2 machines with actual working printers so we had people voting on their paper sample ballots (yes this is legal. they made this the official workaround for this election only).

with Debra Bowen elected as SoS I have REALLY high hopes that some of this stuff will get better though.

I find it funny that the printers, added for correlative assurance, caused so many problems. Yay technology.

Re: Bowen, agreed. It's also entertaining to me that the one race that wasn't definitively called on the CA SofS site earlier this morning was for SofS. I guess that would be personally hard for McPherson to certify.
