what's good

-- I've been rock climbing pretty consistently since I came back from Asia and it's been interesting to see the challenge move from "OMFG, my forearms are destroyed" to "OMFG, I have no idea where to put my hands." I know I'm a walking stereotype by indulging in this particular hobby, but I can totally see why nerds enjoy it. The problem solving ( Read more... )

not aside from the hits ("Sweet Jane," "Pale Blue Eyes," "Femme Fatale" are the ones I know off the top of my head).

I don't know if I disagree, but I think it's interesting that you think that music/other art can be shared for free.

can, of course... should, is a different story :)

Food can be cooked cheaply at home, but most dishes at restaurants are difficult to recreate... and even if you could, it wouldn't be the same since a lot of the dining experience is the atmosphere of the restaurant. Music is sort of untethered in that way in that it can be enjoyed anywhere.

Like I said, I'm far from against music file-sharing under certain conditions. But I guess that I was thinking of food as akin to music performance or in-person art experiences, which are not so easily shared at no-cost or easily reproducible digitally.

i used to feel the same way, but lately i've been finding that a lot of it was my own selling myself short. the more i've been practicing cooking stuff at home, the more i'm finding that it isn't impossible for even a total n00b to make restaurant quality meals from a cookbook.

the main problem i have is just that it takes me *forever*. it takes me on average twice as long if not more than what the cookbook estimates. i suspect a lot of it is due to my lack of basic cooking skill/understanding how to organize it.

but one of the things i like about cooking at home is that a lot of my friends are unemployed or just trying to save money, so we do things where we have everyone throw down $5 towards the pot. with enough people, that means that we can all eat tasty & organic food, good quality wine/mixed drinks, and still be hanging out with a bunch of friends and listening to good music for a fraction of the cost. plus i don't have to leave the house and i can just crawl into bed when i'm tired. heheh

But I really, really hope U2 dies in a fiery plane crash or at least gets dragged slowly behind a Ford filled with racist rednecks.

No need to apologize, but I am curious as to the source of such hatred :)

The music, for one thing, becomes very tedious and dull after a certain point in their career and even more fuel for my hatred are their shameless career moves in endorsing products and providing boring, commercial songs.

And Bono is just a fucking CHUD.
