Daddy’s Little Girl
Rose Weasley was in every way a teenager. At seventeen years old, she loved make-up, gossiping and parties. Being a Ravenclaw, a lot of people expected her to only enjoy studying and reading. Though she did love reading and scored high on all her tests, she liked going to parties as well. Her cousins were Gryffindors, after all. Some rebellious blood ran through her veins. And though Rose did not like to admit it, Gryffindors did know how to throw a good party. Especially her oldest cousin, James Potter. Today she wasn’t going to another infamous Potter party; today it was one of her best friends who was throwing the party. Eleanor Longbottom had just turned seventeen, and that of course needed to be celebrated. This explained why Rose Weasley was sneaking out on this particular Friday evening.
Her mum was usually okay with her going to parties, but she was currently on a business trip to the United States. She would have had to ask her dad if she could go to the party, but she just hadn't found the right time to ask him over the past couple of days. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to ask permission, she did want to. The thing was, her dad liked to think she was still just eleven years old, ready to go to Hogwarts for the first time. In reality, she was seventeen and about to finish Hogwarts. Rose understood he wanted to protect her, but at this rate she would never find a boyfriend. And every guy was already intimidated by her dad since he was one third of the so-called “Golden Trio.” Not to mention her mum was another third of Trio. Every guy who seemed interested was ready to shit himself when they heard her name was Rose Weasley.
Rose really didn't really like sneaking around, but she had no other choice. Her mum knew she was going to go to this party and her cousin, Albus, would be there, so there shouldn’t be a problem. Rose sighed and put her wand in her handbag. She couldn't Disapparate from her room as you couldn’t Apparate in or out of the house, so that’s why she had to go outside. Getting outside was going to be difficult, though. Rose had to sneak past the living room where her little brother Hugo and her dad were listening to the latest Quidditch report. Her dad and brother really loved Quidditch, she couldn’t really be bothered with it. Just like her mum. She might look like a Weasley on the outside, but she felt every way a Granger on the inside. Like her mum, she preferred doing some things “the Muggle way,” without using magic, while her brother would use magic to brush his bloody teeth if he could.
She tiptoed downstairs, holding her breath. Since when did the stairs make so much noise? With every step the stairs creaked a little, the sound boomed in her ears. She prayed to Merlin the Quidditch report was turned up loud enough for her brother and dad not to hear her. She had been really excited for this party; she had even bought herself a new dress! The dress was a bit cold for this Christmas weather, but she was planning to cast a warming spell over herself when she was outside. She was determined to wear this dress. She needed to go, damn all the consequences. But Merlin, she was so nervous!
Rose sighed in relief as she tiptoed of the last step. She took another deep breath and readied herself for the tricky part. She was going to have to walk past her brother and dad without them seeing her. Rose was anything but sneaky, (there was a reason she wasn't sorted into Slytherin, after all), but what she lacked in sneakiness, she made up in intelligence. She had thought ahead and cast a muffling spell on her feet. Hopefully it would be enough.
Rose took slow steps to the door. It was nerve-wracking and she felt really close to peeing herself. Only a few more steps, she thought to herself, then she'd be gone. Her dad might notice her absence once she was at the party, but she would be long gone by then.
She was about to open the door when she heard her brother's voice say: "Oi Rosie, where you heading off to at this hour?"
"Bollocks."
She turned around, meeting her brother's smirking face. She was going to murder him and his stupid Gryffindor ways. She should've known her brother knew her plan all along. Always minding everyone's business except his own.
Her dad entered the hallway as well, looking surprised. She was going to kill her brother.
"Rosie! Where you off to?" he asked. "You weren't sneaking out, were you?"
"Well, if you must know... just a small study group… some friends," she replied, hoping her face stayed neutral. She had never been a good liar. Definitely inherited that annoying trait from her mum.
"A study group? At this hour? Where are you really going? Is it… are you meeting a boy?" he demanded, slowly turning red.
Oh, Merlin...
"Daddy! No! Well… all right, it’s… a party. But just a really small birthday party, honest” she replied.
Her brother looked at her with a cheeky smirk on his face. Rose bet he knew about the party all along and had just been waiting for her to sneak out so he could tattle onto her. Not for the first time, Rose thought bitterly that he should've been sorted into Slytherin with that kind of behaviour. Weren't Gryffindors supposed to be loyal and honest?
"And hell is just a bit hot, Rose Weasley. You are not going, now go to your room."
"You can't do that! I deserve to have a life, you know! I am not bloody five anymore. Eleanor is turning seventeen! It’s important to me!" she screamed.
Her dad paused for a moment, considering. "Will Uncle Neville be there?" he asked finally.
"No, he lets Eleanor have a life. Unlike you!" she cried, her temper slowly rising.
“Rose! I am your father! You can’t… you will not talk to me like that."
"Mum would let me go!"
"Well, your Mum isn't here right now, Rose. So you're going to have to work with me and I say that you are not going!"
"It's just a small party! I swear to Merlin it's nothing bad will happen there! Merlin’s beard, what do you take me for Dad?"
"Will there be any boys?" her dad asked.
"Only a few. It's really just a small party, daddy."
"Will that spawn of Draco Malfoy be attending?"
"Well, he's a Ravenclaw, which is our House, so yes. But daddy, Scorpiusisn't so bad. And what if he comes, so what? I am not even friends with him! You know that!"
"There is no way in hell you're going Rose. Not when Scorpius Malfoy's is there. He might... try something. He might want to… corrupt your innocence!"
"Corrupt my innocence? Dad!"
Rose groaned and whipped out her wand. Furiously, she casted a bad boggey hex in her dad's direction and ran up the stairs. "You're so unfair!"
She threw herself on her bed and screamed into her pillow. There was no way around it, she'd just have to jump out of her window. There was just no way she was not going to Eleanor's birthday.. She should've lied about Malfoy coming. They weren't even friends but ever since her dad found out he had been sorted into Ravenclaw, he was determined to have her stay as far away from him as he could. He even mentioned it now and then in a letter. Her dad was mental. It really was getting to be time that Dad got over his senseless Malfoy hatred. Even her mum didn't hate Malfoy's father anymore. They worked in the same department. But no, her dad had to continue to be an arse about it.
Rose threw her red heels off and pushed them under her bed. It was nine in the evening and the party was about to start. She knew her dad would come in her room soon to check on her; first he would have to cool down. Or floo call mum about how reckless she was, in his words, “for a Ravenclaw.” Anyway, she only had about ten minutes to get out of the house before her dad would notice. This also had to go unnoticed by her little ickle brother, or else he would tell on her again. She was smart and determined, though, she was going to do this.
Rose tied her hair up in a ponytail and slipped some comfortable trainers on. She threw her bag over her shoulder and quietly opened her window. She figured she'd have to jump a few metres before she hit the ground. With an easy cushioning charm she would be able to jump without hurting herself. It was dark, though, and somewhere under her room her mum had planted roses. Roses with thorns. If she fell on the roses, that would hurt, even with the cushioning charm. She was just going to have to take that risk though. Eleanor was expecting her and didn't like to be kept waiting.
She cast a cushioning charm on the ground. She blew a few strands of hair out of her eyes and took a deep breath. One leg over and then the other. If only she had a broom! She would've been able to just fly away, instead of recklessly jumping out of her window.
"Rose? Rose!"
She whipped her head around meeting her dad's shocked face.
"Dad? Get out of my room!" she yelped angrily.
"Rose? What are you doing? Are you trying to kill yourself?" he shrieked back.
"Maybe. Who cares? You don't! Maybe this is my only option, dad."
"You will do no such thing, Rose!"
She sighed, looking at her dad. He was being a really terrible parent at the moment. She really loved him, but at the moment he was just giving her a headache. A massive one at that. Why couldn't he just let her go?
"You have five seconds to get yourself over here before I get drag you out of that window, Rose!"
"I'm sorry dad, but I promised--
"Five..."
"I promised Eleanor I'd be there. She is turning--
"Four... Rose..."
"Seventeen. Merlin, Dad, I am about to finish Hogwarts. It's just a small--
"Three... Rose Weasley!"
"Get together. You know where Uncle Neville lives. Please--
"Two... Rose, I am warning you!"
"I'm sorry, Daddy..." and with a small shriek she jumped from her window.
She hit the ground with a soft thud. She stood up and brushed of the dirt from her dress. She turned around and met her dad's furious face, staring out at her from the window.
"Don't you dare run, Rose!"
But she did. She ran to the front porch and glanced back once to see that her dad had disappeared out of her room, probably running downstairs to get her. She sighed and hoped her dad wouldn't be too upset tomorrow before she turned her heel and Apparated to Eleanor's house.
