I'm sure there's a macro there, we just need to find the right picture.

I know! And I think that this year his story really was the best.

Also, I reckon Steven Moffat is on the way to making it three out of three next year by winning for Blink.

I agree, though personally I'd give the Hugo to "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood"

You don't think Heroes will be a contender?

It depends, I would guess, on whether nominators opt to place it in 'long form'.

Wow. It turns out that all the goodwill I've been seeing for Blindsight was just an internet phenomenon - it ranked lowest of the novels. This must be what the folks who cared about that sort of thing felt when the saw the first weekend box office take for Snakes on a Plane.

Note that Dave Langford held on to Best Fan Writer by a single vote.

And Scalzi had more first-place votes.

Scalzi is even more of a feethly pro, though. Beats the crap out of me how someone who's been a Hugo nominee for Best Novel and a Campbell Award winner could even be considered in the category. It's all bollocks really isn't it?

Well, there's a long history of people who are eligible for pro awards winning best fan writer, eg Bob Shaw in the 70s, and Langford's double win for short story and fan writer a few years ago. So I have no problem with saying "This is an award based on the writing you do for blogs and fanzines and websites" and awarding it to anyone who writes interesting things on those.

Agreed, by and large, but what actual fan writing has Scazi actually done? And he's a paid blogger, according to his own site.

Had a look at the stats, interesting stuff, indeed, and so close for Fan Writer. Am happy for Dave, but also would have been nice for a different winner, maybe just this once, I am very torn on that one, actually as I know Dave, and have'nt met Mr. Scallzi.

Chuuffed that SF 5Y won.

and equally pleased for Ian McDonald.

Not Surprised PNH won, at all.

nice that Novik won something, if not a Hugo.

I think it was a pretty good year, and I'm only disappointed that Blindsight didn't get the nod.

BTW, you predicted more winners than anyone else on my poll the other day.

obviously pure luck there, as just what I reckoned.

Yes, blinsight didn't fare so well. Not Vinge fan, so not that bothered really.

Actually feel more disappointed that Kansas lost, really hard, its their second try and there are some amazing people involved. I know Kansas is only 616 miles from Denver and that Montreal, although on Canada is like 250 miles from boston, and could be seen as east coast, but I am disappointed.

Unless Oz implodes or something mad happens Next US con after Denver will be 2011.
