To show my appreciation, I will vote even though I've only read two of the books on the 1997 list and suspect that The Calcutta Chromosome is quite good, actually.
Ah well I've reached the stage where I'm mostly ticking random books based on the title. The only one I've read is the Sparrow, and I'm sure as hell not picking that.
Spares by MMS, an amazingly cool book and brill SF. The bloody Red Baron by Kim Newman, is it sf, or alternative history or horror. will I get killed for saying Memory by L. M. Bujoid. The Reality Dysfunction by Peter F Hamilton The Star Fraction by Ken Mcleod Northern Lights? Mr. Pullman
But not the Stainless steel rat goes to hell, OK, and definitely not Days of Bitter Strength, Chung Kuo Book seven, by D. Wingrove.
A Japanesse Bladrunner. shit, that brings back memories, ;-)
Star Fraction is the year before and will be on the next poll. Spares I thought had made it on but apparently not. You're right that it deserves a place.
