Adam Roberts has just published his review of Sunshine at Strange Horizons. He goes for "pretty but silly" whereas I would have gone for "pretty but stupid".
I was going to comment on Adam Roberts' review to say the psychologist's suicide wasn't as arbitrary as he thought - and then I saw someone had done that already...
Most of the professional reviews of Sunshine (by non-genre types like Peter Bradshaw and Mark Kermode) have been really glowing, but lots of fans have been disappointed.
I thought it had a lot of good stuff in it, some of the decisions they made were questionable, it seemed over-edited and the end didn't quite work for me. As I was leaving the cinema the general audience seemed underwhelmed. But nevertheless, I think these low(ish) budget SF films are generally A Good Thing and I feel a warm affiliation to each one: you know, these are my films, and I like to experience them.

I think it is really interesting. I don't think the ways the film fails are really SF related at all but yes, there really does seem to be this split. And it seems to lump me in with the fans. Oh noes!
In the poll it is certainly the film that caused the biggest schism.
