Older library printers do have coin slots of various descriptions; I've used them for years.

We have machines NEXT TO the printers and copiers which take coins, but the actual printing machine with its smooth plastic carapace of NO SLOTS does not take coins.

Were the coin slots for the copiers you mention actually on the machines?

Yep, on the top edge toward the right next to the color control and number of prints buttons. And some of them had a card scanner next to that, but not all of them. Those are what I worked with all the way through grad school and for a while later, and I've seen similar ones since then in the DC area; don't know if they're still around.
