"Most creative work fits nicely into a series of classifications. We can quickly tell the difference between a sitcom and a sonnet, and we know what to expect in each one. Even if a work defies our specific expectations about tropes, it usually conforms to more general expectations about the genre. [...] Every so often, something comes along that just does not fit into our usual map of genres. Most of the time, these kinds of pieces get thrown out, so no one remembers them. If they're good they go on to found new genres. This means that Genre Busters are often Trope Makers for a whole range of tropes. "

Round 33: AU asks you to let go of all expectations for your subject and ask yourself not what is, but what could be. Alternate universes are a common narrative device, both in canonical and fandomic works, to explore those pressing questions-for more on the whys and hows and whats, hit up the ever-trusty tvtropes. Whether you choose to present your subject in an entirely different light or push yourself (and your graphics program) into an alternate universe that gives you wildly different results, take round 33 to challenge conventions and do your own thing. That's what art is for, right?
