Pride in the name of love, hockey and jdramas.

Hello, you have reached the LJ post of one insomni-Kat. I apologize, but she will not be available directly for the next few days as her week is booked solid with procrastinatingcramming for the SOA FM exam as well as the hockey jdrama Pride. Why? Because it's a 1) HOCKEY 2) JDRAMA. And the insert songs are 'I was Born to Love You' and 'Too Much Love Will Kill You' by QUEEN. QUEEN. *smacks head* I was doomed from the first second of the opening credits. Had tears in my eyes when the crowd started chanting 'We will we will rock you!' *thump thump clap*

Now don't get me wrong: the hot young blood of Johnny's are pretty indeed, but I trace my fandom path backwards not forward -- Arashi to SMAP, not KAT-TUN. Dude, do you know what a relief it is to be able to refer to Takuya Kimura as a man and not feel awkward about it?

Oh, you KNOW I have to do a comparison.

LOOK! It's HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA! Leafs vs. Penguins!

No wait...

YES THIS IS FROM THE OPENING SEQUENCE. ROTFL, 'cause evercool couldn't properly visualize QUEEN playing during a game collage of scenes.

You can SO TELL which ones are the hockey trainers/advisors for the series on the right.

I've only seen two episodes as of typing this, but I'm actually quite impressed by the accuracy of the sport. Takuya also skates very VERY well. And sure there were the cliches like the overzealous ailing coach and beat-up pick-up truck, but they didn't make my eye twitch (too much). The only glaring technicality?

These are NOT hockey fans. These are SMAP fangirls who forgot that they're supposed to be pretending to be hockey chics/puck bunnies by at least putting on a jersey. :p

This is our anti-hero. The Iceman who cannot fall in love because his heart was frozen a long time ago, Halu.

Gee, I would've never guessed on this shot alone that he was one of the first JE boys. Nope, not in a million years.

He gets himself purposely beat up just to ask for a girl's e-mail address. Awww, isn't he adorable?

EEEEE! Mini boggle head!!!!

Why I have fallen so fast and so hard for this series: Exhibit #1.

On their first date, he takes her skating. Only she can't skate and he's such a show-off that he picks her up and skates through a winter wonderland. OMG FEEL THE LOVE.

Exhibit #2: More clever dialogue.

Aki: 'Is there something wrong with your eyes? You've been staring at me all night.'

Exhibit #3: Awww, someone needs a hug. Or to get thrown back into the fight.

Exhibit #4:
This is a real NHL goalie that I used to have the biggest crush on before he was named MVP and everyone else got to see him without his mask on.

And this is the jdrama goalie.

HOLY SHIT ITS LIKE DEJA VU. At least they got the general theory of hot goalies down. That is, that because they don't skate around as much, they preserve their faces better than the front lines.

'CAUSE I ♥ HIM SO MUCH NOW.

And now for the reasons why you should ALL be having 4am squeal-fests with me during this otherwise disappointing playoff season (GO OILERS GO!)

Figured that scene was pretty self-explanatory. This one, however, requires a little more play-by-play commentary:

Halu is charging the net in a 1-on-2. There's only 5 seconds left in the final period and they game is tied.

Uh-oh. Doesn't look like he's going to get through.

But wait! What does his eyes behold at the gate entrance square in front of him?

SUPER LOVER She came after all!

You don't know this, but his heart actually leaps for joy here as the defensemen attempt to take him down HARD.

Aki fears the gruesome 'physical violence' of the sport. It's true though that it's a little overdone in this particular game. But essential for the plot.

Halu falters. 'Why'd she turn away? Didn't she make a promise to be brave and watch me?'

And this is Aki remembering that he told her to be strong and watch him.

So she looks.

Their eyes lock.

Happy Halu. ♥

THIS IS THE POWER OF LOVE, BABY.
And ROWR, look at that charge face. Is the former hockey chic within streaking unabashedly right now?

SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRE!!!!!!!!

Halu: 'I...

Halu: '...see you.'

Halu: 'take my heart.'

Halu: 'shoot it to you.'

Cupid's aim is straight and true. Too bad she already has a boyfriend.

Halu: 'WTF?!'

Halu: 'My chipped molar that I gave you after the last game and said was the embodiment of my soul that I entrust to you?'

Aki: 'Yep!'
Halu: *grins* 'Then... [does that mean you're falling in love with me?]'
Aki: 'Maybe.'

CONCLUSION: There needs to be more jdramas that dress up JE boys in hockey gear and package them to Canada in the end.
And just to show that nothing is ever really new to me in fandom (merely not noticed enough the first time around): the first time I saw Takuya was really the first time I realized just how big a dork Elijah Wood is.

HAPPY VICTORIA LONG WEEKEND!

kimutaku, je boys, pride
