What a strong message, there. Something about it rings so true, though. My parents also criticizes the world today as the world that belongs to those with an overblown sense of entitlement. I don't know if it's true or not. I suspect the lenses of nostalgia coloured some of their opinions. But, yeah. Economy, eh.
At least if we ruined it, it has to also mean we can fix it, somehow, right?
I like how you broke very complicated concepts into very simple lines for the son's character with this piece. It was well done.
I really got stuck on this prompt. Every time I thought of fools and money, I thought about this conversation between my oldest son and I. It was so hard to get across to him the idea that we've done it to ourselves... that no government or agency is responsible for the lack of work and inflated prices.
In this economy, it seemed the best way to explain it to my son. I was floored when he walked in and just said that to me. Not a lot really makes me see red, but general statements like that do. I just wanted him to look at the big picture, and not just listen to one-liners that float around.
Since I explained it to him in terms he understands, maybe he'll ask me first. At least, that's my hope.
Thanks. I can only hope some of it sank in and stayed. I know he was off on a different subject 3 seconds later, but... every now and again he hears me. :)
