I am back on American soil. A simple flight from Kuwait City, Kuwait to Frankfurt, Germany, to Bangkor, Maine (US) to Fort Hood, Texas to Austin -- where I am currently hiding-out in the Admiral's Club at the airport until my flight. From here I go to Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to Wichita, Kansas, to Fort Riley, Kansas and then to my normal duty

There will be a lot of things that you'll find "uncomfortable" or that have changed since you left. Especially at home where people have had to learn to live without your presence. Give those things time and a lot of patience. Relationships especially need to be treated as if they're brand new and you will need to re-learn who your partner is just as they will need to learn who you've come to be. Give it time and a lot of patience with yourself and others.
I know what you mean when people thank you for your service. I usually do the "you're welcome" thing to all the while reciting the St. Crispins day sililoquoy from Henry II by Shakespeare.
