Banewreaker and its sequel Godslayer by Jacqueline Carey. Absolutely beautiful dark fantasy.

Bridge of Birds, by Barry Hughart, and its sequels Story of the Stone and Eight Skilled Gentlemen. Hilarious and awesome stories.

I will think of more later, no doubt, but those are the top of my absolute must-read list.

ANYTHING BY CHARLES DE LINT T_T I suggest The Onion Girl, Forests of the Heart or Mulengro for first novels! But his short stories are awesome too.

Orphans of Chaos uhmm, John Wright I think. THIS IS A CHECK OUT not a buy, imo. But it's terribly interesting.
