My computer right now is a Dell Inspiron 1545, which I customized. It pretty much does everything you're asking - I don't know about Sony Vegas, but it runs Windows Movie Maker fine, along with Photoshop and iTunes, etc. The only problem I've had is while playing The Sims 2. It'll run, and it plays fine, just sometimes the graphics go all WTFISTHAT. But I'm sure you can get a graphics update for that, too~.

If you're going to get a dell, make it a desktop. After experiences with the death machine that is this InspironE1505, I might be better off with a different brand name for my laptop...

I hear Alienwares are nice. A pretty penny but nice.

I can't recommend anything specific, but I'd advise against getting an Acer laptop again. If my friend who's had a bit of education with computer stuff is to believed, they're kind of the joke of the industry. My experience backs that up, too: my sister and I both bought Acer Aspire laptops because they were cheap and good enough for what we would use them for. Both laptops developed the same hardware problem within two years of purchasing them and had to be replaced.

I've got a hefty Gateway NV58 now. Although the company is owned by Acer, they've got a much better reputation. It handles Adobe Flash, Photoshop Elements 6.0, Corel Painter Essentials 4, and Portal* without lag. I've had it for a year with no major problems aside from the power button needing to be replaced once.

Only potential downsides are that it's large, it can be a little wobbly, and you pay good money for it.

*Even though Steam didn't recognize the graphics card, it works fine. Loading screens are about a second long.

I don't have any recs either, but I highly suggest against a Toshiba. D: A friend of my dad's and I both have Toshibas, and they've been nothing but garbage since the start. It's okay at handling art programs and some emulation, but other than that, it's not very good at going along with much. In fact, I fear I might not be able to run Portal too because of it, now that you mention it. XD Plus it seems to love having every mess-up in the book, and it's a pain to deal with. Even some system files are acting screwy on mine. System files that come with only Toshibas. So um... yeah. Icky.

Good luck getting a new computer~ ;w;b
