I'm sure it works - I remember getting a Flower Jar or maybe even a Flower Box from him before! Buuuut I cannot for the life of me remember when a good time to give it back is. I tried it in my most recent playthrough, right when I was at Bowser's Castle near the end, I think, and only got a tab. Maybe save every time you've done something major in the story, give it back, see what happens, and reload if it's no good!

Yes, something like a Flower Box! I believe it's after you get the Star on Star Hill, maybe? Man, too bad you can't read the Toad's ID! XD

I'd be tempted to guess that the ideal time would be either when you go back with Toadstool, or when you can go back to see Samus Aran after the sunken ship. Square is generally clever about tying elements together like that; the Taban equipment in Chrono Trigger is set up the same way (i.e. the flag that controls when you can get it coincides with times that you're going to be in the neighborhood anyway for plot reasons.)

Like I said to Morri, I think you get the best present after you take the 4th star from Star Hill. Dang, I don't think I remember the Taban equipment at all, it's been so long since I played CT. :o
