Niizuma Deka by Miduki Mato and illustrated by Ebihara Yuri is pure fluffy fun. A strong-willed detective and a very proper politician meet and fall in love. They "get married," but their wedded bliss is interrupted by a murder of a wedding guest on their wedding night. Even worse, the happy husband may be a suspect and it's up to his wife to find out the truth!
Yes, it sounds totally stupid. It kinda is. But it's a fun stupid. If you think of it as a summer blockbuster movie and just go with the flow, it's wonderful. The main characters are totally secure in their own identities and in their relationship. There's a bit too much sex in the book for me, but it's so refreshing to have partners who truly revel in it without the shame or domination/submission crap that's in 90% of BL. No slut-shaming for the uke, who really is so secure in his manhood he doesn't need to prove it.
I really hope this will turn into a series. The main characters are adorable and make such a cute couple. Sometimes lala fantasy is a good thing.
Kasumi Chihiro is about to storm into a building to arrest a suspect when he takes a call from his fiancee, Sanjou Junichirou. Sanjou is upset to hear that Chihiro is in the middle of something since Chihiro is supposed to be heading towards the church. But Chihiro promises to be there in half an hour and hangs up. He's resolved to finish things up in five minutes. Chihiro tells his junior partner to go around back with the others, he will go in from the front on his own. His partner tells Chihiro not to kill or seriously injure the suspect. It's a message from their (long-suffering) boss. They go in, find the suspects and the yazuka members he was meeting with, Chihiro shoots the members and kicks the suspect where it'd hurt the most, and arrest the suspect. He then heads out with his partner for the church, arriving with sirens blaring. Junichirou rushes out in a traditional aristocratic costume (his family is an old noble family), which Chihiro finds bizarre. Why such a Japanese Japanese outfit in a church? He's ushered in for his preparations, which turn out to be the female traditional costume, the twelve-layer kimono. He objects that he'll look ridiculous, but Junichirou says it's a family tradition. He also points out that he'd tried to ask Chihiro for his opinion regarding the wedding but Chihiro had left all details up to him. Chihiro concedes the point and allows the waiting women to prepare him.
Chihiro walks down the "virgin road" with his boss to give him away. At the end of the ceremony they kiss passionately. Junichirou promises to make Chihiro happy. Chihiro responds that of course he will.
There's a flashback to how Chihiro and Junichirou meet. Chihiro had been two hours late to a date with his girlfriend after not seeing her for three months. She punches him and storms off when he asks that they have sex before dinner. He hadn't had sex or even masturbated in too long, but now he has no one. A passersby lends him a handkerchief to wipe his bloody mouth. It is Junichirou. Chihiro explains why he'd been decked by a woman. Junichirou invites him for dinner. Chihiro asks if Junichirou is gay, but Junichirou says that he isn't. Chihiro looks Junichirou over and asks if he's good at sex. He wants sex, and though he's never had sex with a guy he'd be interested in such an experience with a guy like Junichirou.
Junichirou accepts Chihiro's offer and escorts him like a gentleman to the hotel he regularly uses.
And they proceed to have a very nice time. They discover that they seem to have both had a "love at first sight" experience.
Three months later they marry. Legally Junichirou has adopted Chihiro, but they publicly treat the whole thing as a marriage.
After the festivities they are relaxing in the hotel suite. Just as things are starting to get hot and heavy, Chihiro gets a phone call. Turns out a wedding guest staying in the same hotel has been murdered, so he goes to the scene of the crime. His partner shows up soon after.
Unfortunately, it turns out that Junichirou was the last person to have seen the victim. He refuses to tell Chihiro what the subject of the conversation is as it was a private matter.
The next morning they go to Junichirou's house, a huge mansion where Chihiro will also live. When they are caught making out by the housekeeper, they are cautioned to close their doors since random people may be walking through the mansion at any time.
Chihiro learns more about the victim from Junichirou. The victim is one of the secretaries of another legislator close to Junichirou. They go to pay respects to the legistator, meeting up with Chihiro's partner outside. Turns out the partner wants to interview the legislator but hadn't gotten an appointment. Chihiro decides to bring his partner along so that he can question the legislator. The secretary's wife had told the partner that she suspected her husband of having an affair. The legislator didn't think it could be true since the secretary is such a loyal and hard working man. Chihiro suspects an affair as well, a hunch stemming from Junichirou's refusal to tell the dead man's secret as personal and something that could be bad for his reputation. After seeing the legislator's vehement denial of the allegation of his secretary's unfaithfulness, Chihiro suspects that the legislator knows who the secretary was having an affair with.
Chihiro and his partner leave Junichirou with the legislator and visit Junichirou's office. They talk with one of Junichirou's secretaries about the victim. He didn't think the victim would've had an affair because he was totally committed to his job.
Passionate sex go! I think this is their first chance for sex after the wedding.
They declare to each other that they will only have sex with each other from now on.
After Chihiro rests the next morning upon Junichirou's insistence, he and his partner work on the murder case. They interview hotel staff and learn that the floor the victim was on was a special floor that needs a room key to get onto. Junichirou had reserved all the rooms for various guests. Turns out that most of the keys had been held by Junichirou's secretary, but one had been held by the legislator, the boss of the victim. Junichirou is at the temple helping to get ready for the funeral. Chihiro strongly suspects the legislator and is worried for Junichirou's safety, so they rush to the temple.
When Chihiro arrives and finds Junichirou and the legislator, the legislator is pointing a gun at Junichirou. It was as Chihiro had suspected. Junichirou's insane wedding to a man had caused the victim to decide to come clean. He'd been having an affair with his boss. But his boss didn't want anyone to know about their affair, so he'd killed his lover. Though both Chihiro and Junichirou urge the legislator to turn himself in, he turns the gun on himself and commits suicide.
The two cuddle after a long, long day.
In the afterward the artist comments that it was very fun drawing a strong, manly, sexy "wife." XDXD;
I glossed over a lot of the details, such as all the bits about how Junichirou forced everyone to accept his marriage to Chihiro. Especially his family, who were (unsurprisingly) against it. But he's such a man that he could do it. There were lots of comments by Chihiro's partner expressing much admiration for Junichirou for being such a man to be able to marry Chihiro. And there's lots and lots of sweet talk between Chihiro and Junichirou. They are very very devoted to each other. Also, many pages of sex I summarized with one or two lines. XD
One sex detail I'd like to mention, though, is when Chihiro gives Junichirou a blow job. Junichirou pulls out and ejaculates on Chihiro's face. They'd never done that before. Junichirou asks Chihiro how it feels to be "dirtied." Instead of the standard shame or humiliation, Chihiro simply gets more aroused and says so. How sad is it that this is so unusual I want to point it out? :P
