I get an amazing amount of spam on my UW address. It's just truly special. I'm not sure if there is a way to turn on some anti-spam thing, but I think I need to look into that. If only to minimize the chances of accidentally deleting a rare important email ( Read more... )

It's possible. I know there is some sort of anti-spam measure available, but I don't recall the details off-hand, nor am I sure how to turn it on. I'll have to take a closer look.

UWMail tags spam like this: [spam]Not getting enough erectoin? and doesn't delete it even if you tell it specifically to delete mail tagged as spam. Everybody I know who has a UW account is plagued by hundreds of spam email daily, without being able to remedy it... if you find out how to fix it, you should be given an award of some sort.

University email systems are notorious for spam problems. I dunno what the reason is, but I suspect that spammers target college email addresses on the theory that they're more likely to find cyber-innocent kids who will actually respond to the emails.

GMail is simply incredible. Not only it it sensitive and specific -- in other words, it misses little if any genuine spam and tags as spam almost nothing that isn't -- it's beautifully responsive. A few weeks ago some spammer found a way around GMail's filtering and there was a flurry of spam that went unrecognised ... but in three days that was fixed.
