Sex, Lies & Photoshop

Sorry, can't be embedded. Also the mind behind this, Jesse Epstein

She's pretty much calling out the fantasy that is digital editing of images. In today's world, a mass media image with a model or celebrity is RARELY printed with out some form of touch up work, especially if its NOT for ( Read more... )

completely. our children are growing up not appreciating them as themselves as nature made them.

it's disturbing. really. what I can do to an image...to change a persons look, I'm not happy about it. I don't mind little changes like getting rid of a pimple or clearing up your acne for a better image look but even with my example when it gets to extremes where you don't recognize yourself, changing your actual body size, etc...fail.

not bad work though right? lol

"our children are growing up not appreciating them as themselves as nature made them."

I totally agree, although I think this has been going on since well before photoshop. Digital enhancement probably does take it to another level, but somewhere along the line, people started believing that they actually had to look like models rather than thinking of them (models) as being people who were "supernaturally" above-average looking and who hence were selected to appear in photos selling shit because that was their job. It's like the idea that you aren't supposed to sing at all in public unless you can do a creditable tribute-band impersonation of Whitney or Jennifer or (god help us) Mariah Carey. When did ordinary people have to sound like extraordinarily talented people singing into microphones with recording studio technology and sound technicians?

I definitely see your point about demeaning the skill of a photographer as well.

yeah it has but at least before folks actually LOOKED like the pictures. OH and on music GIRL you ain't got to sing...just have fruity loops program and a voice watchamado to make you sound like zapp & roger.

Yes nobody is to be themselves. Reminds me of Robots (animated movie with robin williams) "Why be you when you can be new?"

don't get me started on the other countries that promote skin bleaching...oy VEY! pale devil has ruined the world I tell ya.

Well, the Jessica Alba shot was more about lighting than 'shopping her up, at least with the two to compare. Your shots on the other hand ... I dunno, I kinda like the first one better. I mean, the second one is more "glam" but definitely faker-looking. Guess I'm just a sucker for natural beauty in the end.
